The third chakra is called the Solar Plexus Chakra, or Manipura in Sanskrit. This chakra has also been known as the “City of Jewels”.

The Sanskrit word Manipura is literally translated as “City of Jewels” and the word is broken down like this:

Mani = Jewel, Pearl

Pura = City, Place

In a healthy Solar Plexus Chakra, some of the abilities we can find are wisdom and discernment. Perhaps the saying “pearls of wisdom” originates with from the third chakra name of Manipura? Food for thought.

Additionally, through the “City of Jewels” Chakra with the help of healthy willpower, we can find more “pearls” within our being. Pearls of clarity, self-confidence, health, and well-being are all possible through the Solar Plexus Chakra. Lastly, with the proper nourishment of the body, the Solar Plexus Chakra can directly affect your entire spiritual system through energy. More to come on this.

The Solar Plexus Chakra is located behind the navel and its essence can be felt just above and/or below the navel in some cases.

Due to this location in the body, the Solar Plexus Chakra has an association with the digestive system and can send energy to the rest of the chakras, just as our digestive system takes the nutrients from our food and liquid that we consume and sends it throughout the body. Consider the Solar Plexus Chakra the spiritual digestive and distributive system for the essence of your spiritual being.

To start, the Solar Plexus Chakra has a strong connection to the element of Fire.

Due to this chakra’s connection to fire, it is interesting that it is named the “Solar” Plexus Chakra, as solar refers to sun, which has always had a connection to fire as well. “Plexus” is defined as a network. We’ll see how this connects with the third chakra in just a moment.

Back to fire. Just as fire can transform a material from one state to the next, the Solar Plexus Chakra can transform energy as well. Take a look at the examples below.

On a physical level, the fire-burning connection of the Solar Plexus Chakra is similar to a bonfire. A bonfire consumes the wood and materials we throw into it, thus raising the literal height, heat, and volume of the flames. When the bonfire runs out of fuel, the flame begins to reduce in size and dwindle down to embers and ashes. Higher quality wood will allow for a longer, cleaner flame to burn. The lower quality wood will not produce the greatest flame and perhaps not ignite at all.

The analogy above serves as a physical example and  a spiritual example for our own bodies. As stated earlier, digestion is connected with the Solar Plexus Chakra. The food we consume literally feeds the rest of our physical body, just like the wood that feeds the bonfire. Our digestive system absorbs the nutrients (or lack of!) from our food and feeds our physical body.

Simultaneously, our Solar Plexus Chakra acts as an energy-converter that refines our food into Prana (life energy) and sends it flowing throughout our other energy points and chakras. The cleaner the intake, the more pure the Prana connection becomes.

Solar Plexus Chakra = Fire Network Energy Point. 🤔 🤯

Sure makes you consider what you’re putting into your body! It matters on a physical AND spiritual level.

Since the Solar Plexus Chakra deals quite a bit with energy, let’s take a moment to address the pros and cons of food and how it may affect our bodies and spirit.

Poor intake, or foods that are further from source (the sun), will lead most people down paths of tiredness, weakness, obesity, illness, and poorer overall health. Processed foods and foods that are even further removed from raw, real, traceable foods are ones to stay away from.

On the other hand, when the Solar Plexus Chakra is literally fed with the proper intake of real, high-energy foods (closer to the sun), it has the ability to burn and sustain energy for much, much longer than expected. Keeping the Solar Plexus Chakra healthy and active will allow the body plenty of energy to withstand lack sleep and lack of eating. Imagine being invigorated with energy without having to eat or sleep as much!

Additionally, since the Solar Plexus Chakra has a connection to fire, and fire transforms matter, this chakra gives your being the power to transform. Are you having trouble changing into the person or being you should be? Struggling with health and need to improve your well-being? This might be the chakra that could CHANGE your life.

How can we keep the Solar Plexus Chakra healthy and active? Read on!

The way to have a healthy Solar Plexus Chakra is simple: Eat right!

Simple does not mean easy in this case.

The idea is simple. The implementation is quite difficult for most people.

Modern day society does not help us in this endeavor. Check out our Food, Fuel, & Elements post to learn more about that topic.

In order to help balance the Solar Plexus Chakra, fueling your body and being should be your first priority. If you CHANGE your intake, your being will CHANGE. Again, simplicity is in the mentality, but strong and healthy willpower and discipline are needed in order to implement the change that unlocks the true hidden power of the Solar Plexus Chakra – body and spirit transformation.

Once unlocked, the Kundalini energy that we mentioned in the Root Chakra and Sacral Chakra can finally continue its path up the chakras to the higher levels in your body and spirit.

The symbol for the Solar Plexus Chakra in the middle of the image on this page includes the Sanskrit syllable or sound (mantra) of “ram” (Ram) राम. The sound of Ram (pronounced with an “ah” vowel sound) repeated in meditation can help bring energy, self-confidence, willpower, and control of negative influences and impulses through the Solar Plexus Chakra.

With the Ram mantra, allow the energy of the Solar Plexus Chakra to spread the positive, healthy energy of the Manipura throughout your body and spirit. Remember, the Solar Plexus Chakra is a Fire Network Energy Point, so feeding that chakra with the proper sounds and vibrations will spread healthy energy throughout your being, thus helping you stay disciplined and invigorated in your endeavors.

Using a quartz crystal pendulum, check your Solar Plexus Chakra to see what type of energy is flowing. You may even find that the chakra is blocked.

If the energy is flowing properly, be happy and reward the body with thankfulness. Your body is trying its best to keep your “fire network” connection to your spirit healthy, so appreciate that!

If your Solar Plexus Chakra is not balanced or perhaps blocked, here are some steps that we have found to help open that chakra to healthy energy:

  • Recognize the injustices that you pass onto and into your body. It usually starts with nutrition. It is important to embrace the fact that you have not treated or fueled the body as well as possible. Doing so lets your body, spirit, and consciousness all know that you acknowledged that fact. Simple recognition and verbalization is key, and your body, spirit, consciousness will appreciate the message that you are aware!
  • Do not be ashamed. This is arguably the one of the toughest chakras to balance. Whether it be nutrition, willpower, etc., this is a tough chakra to master.
  • Do not be disappointed in yourself. Whether the disappointment is due to improper nourishment or perhaps other failures in life, release the disappointment entirely and let it go.

Meditation is absolutely needed in this chakra. The above statements are simple to read, but may be tough to fully accept and balance in your own life and experiences. Proper meditation and breathing will begin to help with the balance of the Solar Plexus Chakra and will ultimately lead your Kundalini energy into the Heart Chakra.
